The situation on the ground in Ethiopia is desperate:
- 9.9 million people have run out of food because of drought
- 2.2 million children are facing starvation in drought-affected areas
- 685,900 pregnant and lactating women are acutely malnourished
- The cost of food in Ethiopia rose by more than 33% in 5 months because of inflation and the war in Ukraine

A Perfect Storm
Drought
- Climate experts are calling this the longest and most severe drought on record for the Horn of Africa
- 5 consecutive dry seasons destroyed millions of families’ crops, livestock, income
- Without humanitarian assistance, experts are predicting a famine, leading to hundreds of thousands of hunger-related deaths
Displacement
- Fighting between rebel forces and the government forced thousands of families to flee to displacement centres
- With a new peace treaty, families are returning home, but our partners are reporting 82% of returning families have lost their crops and possessions, and many have damaged or destroyed homes
- Families want to rebuild their homes but are missing basic survival necessities to survive the rebuilding period

Food Distribution
- Wheat flour, legumes, cooking oil
- Supplies to last a family for 1 month
Hygiene Supplies
- Bathing soap, laundry soap
- Underwear, sanitary pads
Medical Care
- Clinics and screenings to assess health needs
- Follow-up care for all kids needing medical support
- $70 will give a child, a mom, a dad urgently-needed food and hygiene supplies
- $350 will give a family life-saving care
